For immediate release
Cooperative Image Group (Co-op)
is proud to present to you our first musical event of the season on Aug
13 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Doors open at 8:00pm and
there will be an 8$ cover charge. This year’s star-studded
lineup includes some of the best local hip-hop and salsa bands representing
the Chicago land music scene. Set to play is Orquesta Ranura,
a smoking eight-piece Afro-Cuban dance band with explosive horns, percussion
and keys playing meringue, cha-cha, and mambo rhythms guaranteed to make
you wanna move somethin’. Also, Primeridian, this
soulful crew that exudes lyrical depth puts that element of true hip hop
back into rap music playing skillfully colorful keyboard notes on top
of classy turntable riffs bringing a familiar sound and new faces back
to hip hop (“The Urb”). The queens of Chicago hip hop
Ang 13 w/AAA Battery is the most sought after crew in
the Midwest. This energetic group of ladies come with a style all their
own, leading the way by putting a new school twist on an old school style
of hip hop (“center stage”). Atma w/ The
graduate brings a melancholy lyrical style that sends you off
on a intense spiritual journey using some of his life’s most valuable
lessons set off by superb beats by one of the best up and coming producers.
The Bad News Jones with a 4 to 6 piece band and
a squad of 3 mc’s (who truly are the icing on the cake)
this crew couldn’t get any tighter displaying their tremendous talent
by playing shows and making it look effortless showing that you
don’t always need turntables to make a crowd move, satisfaction
guaranteed. Hot off the summerfest stage, Treologic (w/special
guests) are taking a break from their hectic schedule to join
our line up. This 7 piece crew has everything from congas to turntables
and is not afraid to play it like it is with jazzy yet soulful beats that
are tied together by one mc to give it that smooth lounge like hip hop
feel. And last but not least, poetry from the The Young Chicago Authors
set to perform throughout the night between acts. A silent auction will
also be held throughout the evening featuring items donated from local
artists and businesses. Proceeds generated from the entry fees and auction
will go to providing an operational budget for Co-op with the purpose
of continuing to create public arts education programs within youth communities
in need.
Cooperative image group (co-op) began as a result of high school artist
apprenticeship program that organized Chicago area artists to build community
while providing civic service through youth arts education. Our mission
is to exceed means of traditional awareness, and provide a forum for underexposed
artists through collaborative ventures between youth of various neighborhoods
and our collection of artists.
Co-op has been going strong for almost 2 years now, giving kids an opportunity
to express themselves at the arts center and in our new garden. We’ve
recently restored Campbell garden, located at 1357-9 N. Campbell, building
a new fence, painting a mural and laying a beautiful glass and tile mosaic,
all with the help of the kids and various community members of Humboldt
Park. In thanks to all those who helped, a barbeque was held on June 5th
to celebrate all the hard work that was done in the Campbell garden. In
addition we also had a very successful rummage sale that same day at the
Pontiac bar and grill at 1531 N. Damen.
Co-op will continue to serve Chicago’s youth by raising social awareness
in the inner-city through the arts and giving them a chance they might
not have had, had we’d not been there.
